When a walk-in medical center can be a quick, affordable option.
“I am going to need you to fill out this form.”
We all hear these words time and time again, especially this time of year as children are attending summer camps, playing summer sports, and preparing for the next school year. All of these events require some type of form or forms to be filled out, and sometimes deadlines can sneak up on you.
What do you do when your child’s camp medical forms are due, and he or she hasn’t had a recent physical exam?
When your usual doctor may not work
Your first inclination may be to call your primary care physician to schedule a physical and get forms completed. While that’s always a great option, sometimes it can take a few weeks to get the first available appointment. That doesn’t help when the deadline is coming up quickly! What then?
A fast and affordable option
That’s when a walk-in clinic or an urgent care clinic may be a better – yet still affordable – option. You may not normally think to schedule a routine doctor visit at an urgent care center or walk-in medical clinic, yet some urgent care facilities – like our Manhattan and Hicksville locations – also handle primary care appointments as well as routine exams for things like physicals, employment, and immigration paperwork.
Surprisingly, depending on your insurance, these facilities can be affordable options for parents who need a quick physical exam for their child so the child can participate in fun summer activities while staying safe.
And don’t forget about school medical exams! The start of school is right around the corner. Forms for school entry and sports participation during the school year may also be needed.
Consider UrgentWay for urgent form needs
UrgentWay locations in Manhattan and Hicksville are primary care facilities, which means we offer appointments for routine physicals for children, teenagers, and adults. We can typically squeeze you in quickly – even the same day if needed.
UrgentWay locations in Bronx and Hempstead are primarily urgent care facilities, however, these two locations offer routine physicals, too. Check with your insurance company to make sure they will cover a physical exam at an urgent care center, but, like our Manhattan and Hicksville locations, we can take walk-in patients as well as same-day or next-day appointments.
A few tips for preparing for camps, sports, and school:
- Plan early. Assume that if your child is playing a sport or attending camp this summer, he or she will need a completed health form of some sort.
- Confirm with your child’s school what forms and health records are needed to start school in the fall, particularly if your child is just starting school or switching to a new school.
- If you can’t get in to see your primary care physician – or if you do not have a primary care physician – consider UrgentWay! Many patients list UrgentWay providers as their primary care physicians (PCP).
